Thondamuthur residents stage road roko

By Our Staff Reporter

COIMBATORE, NOV. 1. Irate residents in and around Thondamuthur staged a road blockade this morning demanding adequate bus services to their area.

They gathered in large numbers near the police station and squatted on the road in a bid to draw the attention of the authorities concerned.

The agitation led to the detention of 11 buses since 8 a.m.

They criticised the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) for having curtailed the number of trips of two town buses i.e. route number 58 between Narasipuram and Townhall and route number 21B between Kempanur and Gandhipuram. The agitators pointed out that the withdrawal of Gandhipuram-Narasipuram night bus service had hit them very hard and they wanted the same to be reintroduced immediately.

The other demands included laying or renewal of the battered Vandikaranur-Kuppepalayam road and provision of basic infrastructure in Mallikai Nagar and Adi-dravidar Colony in Thondamuthur area.

More trips of the town bus service and reintroduction of night bus service would benefit several areas including Narasipuram, Viraliyur, Vellarugampalayam, Selambanur, Kurumbapalayam and Vedapatti.
