BELGAUM, NOV. 2. "QRIO Science Programme" sponsored by UNESCO was organised under the auspices of the Belgaum District Comprehensive Rural Development Programme and the National Federation of UNESCO Associations, Japan (NFUAJ), in Makkalgeri village of Gokak taluk recently. According to a release here on Tuesday, a community-learning centre was opened in the village. The executive director of a non-government organisation, BIRDS, presided over the inaugural function. The programme aims at creating awareness about the latest scientific developments in the world among rural children. The director of NFUAJ, Terao Akito, and representatives of Sony Corporation were present. They demonstrated various developments in several fields, including electricity. The most attractive presentation was about robotics that evoked a lot of curiosity among the young children.
