Medex-2004 gaining momentum

By Our Staff Reporter

KOTTAYAM, NOV. 2. Medex-2004, the all-Kerala medical exhibition being organised at the Kottayam Medical College grounds, is gaining momentum with more than 10,000 people visiting the pavilions on the second day of the show.

The exhibition, being attempted by the medical college, after a gap of two decades, is being organised with the active involvement of 20 Lions Clubs in and around Kottayam town.

According to the organisers, part of the income from the expo would be utilised to help cardiac patients from the low-income group who are in need of surgery. The proceeds would also be used to procure modern medical equipment for the Kottayam Medical College and also for the functioning of the students' union.

The daily health education seminars being organised at the venue are also attracting a lot of people. Seminars on cardiac problems, diabetes and hypertension evoked impressive response from the public, organisers said. Seminars on cancer, pregnancy, child health, mental health and hepatitis will be held in the coming days.

Organisers have released a medical reference guide in connection with the exhibition. The income from the sales would also go to a corpus fund being mobilised for medical aid for the poor.
