Himachal Pradesh
By Our Staff Correspondent
SHIMLA, NOV.2. The Vice-Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University, L.R.Verma, today claimed that the University had not violated the provisions of the Statues or Ordinances while granting permission to L.R. Institute of Legal Studies for starting a five-year law course. The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party had on Monday demanded dismissal of the Vice-Chancellor after raising allegations of abrogation of rules and regulations in the Universities Act for granting an out-of-the-way permission to a private trust to start the law course.
He claimed that the Institute was fulfilling all the conditions where as the University was not having a proper library and other infrastructure. On whether it was prudent to start another private Law College in a small State like Himachal, the Dean of Law Faculty said there was a tremendous pressure on the University to start the five- year L.L.B course. The Dean was not able to spell out the "public pressure" except to state that there was a query from the Governor's office regarding the date of opening the course.
