NAGARJUNASAGAR (NALGONDA DT.), NOV. 2. The State Government has decided to develop three lakh acres of land under the Andhra Pradesh Rural Livelihood Project (APRLP) this year, according to the Minister for Rural Development, D. Srinivas. Speaking to reporters after reviewing the district-level activities of his Ministry here on Tuesday, he said Rs. 500-crore loan would be sought from the NABARD under the RIDF (Rural Infrastructure Development Fund). "The Congress Government is according top priority for the landless poor and 15,000 to 25,000 acres will be identified in each district for distribution among the poor,'' he said adding that irrigation of dry crops would be encouraged in these fields. ``We are in the process of distributing surplus land for the poor. If the Government land is not available, we are ready to purchase it to distribute among the poor. An amount of Rs. 200 crores was allocated for the land purchasing scheme,'' Mr. Srinivas said.
Water supply
Mr. Srinivas said there was no dearth of funds for providing safe water for people of Nalgonda district. "Krishna waters is the only solution for the problem. The Centre is ready to allocate the required financial assistance.'' The SE of the RWS, Krishna Reddy, informed to the Minister that 75 of 258 habitats would be supplied Krishna water by December and the remaining by March next.
