NEW DELHI, NOV. 2. The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, key Cabinet members, several Ambassadors, officials and select journalists attended an "iftar" party hosted by the Minister of State for External Affairs, E. Ahamed, at his residence this evening. It appeared that all roads led to the 9 Teen Murti Marg, Mr. Ahamed's residence. . The success he achieved in securing the release of the three Indian hostages in Iraq seems to have given him a high profile. The Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad, was among the first to arrive as was the former President, K. Narayanan. A relaxed, smiling and confident Prime Minister went around chatting with the invitees. Dr. Singh told the journalists present that he had settled in the job of Prime Minister though he had not "prepared" for it. He said the job involved a considerable amount of "public relations" since the Head of Government was required to be present at public functions and meet foreign dignitaries. Asked if he continued to burn the midnight oil, Dr. Singh said that his "time management" had improved since taking office. Senior Ministers such as P. Chidambaram, Natwar Singh, Arjun Singh, Mani Shankar Aiyar, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi, the National Security Adviser, J.N. Dixit, the Special Adviser to the Prime Minister, M.K. Narayanan, and the Foreign Secretary, Shyam Saran, were also present.
