NEW DELHI, NOV. 2. The Leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Subhash Arya, today alleged that due to wrong policies of the Congress, "only Rs.300 crores had been realised as property tax so far after the last date for claiming rebate expired". The wrong decisions regarding the new unit area method had been forced on the people of Delhi by the Congress-ruled MCD who were now feeling cheated, he added. Claiming that he had warned the Congress not to implement the unit area method in the Capital as it would not benefit the Corporation financially, Mr. Arya said a dip in collection of property tax had been registered as the civic body failed to take the people into confidence and imposed the new system. There were lot of discrepancies in the present proposal that had left people confused, he added. Mr. Arya further alleged that the various colonies had not been categorised in a correct manner in the absence of any scientific formula like keeping DDA flats in the category of colonies was unjustified. Moreover, many representations relating to wrong categorisation were lying pending with the Hardship and Anomaly Committee and its decision not to consider these applications had disappointed people, he added.
