Spirit seized: one arrested

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, NOV. 2. The city police today seized 560 litres of illicit spirit that was being transported in a car near the Secretariat at 1.30 a.m.

The police said that the car driver Murugan, 28, hailing from Neyattinkara, was arrested and the car taken into custody. The spirit was kept in 16 plastic cans in the car.

A police team led by the CI (Cantonment), K.E. Baiju, seized the car following a tip-off received by the CI (Control Room), V. Harish Kumar. The accused was produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate III and remanded to judicial custody till November 8.

Youth killed

A youth was run over by a KSRTC bus in front of the Kachani Post Office in the Vattiyoorkavu police station limits at 5.50 p.m. today.

The police said that the deceased was identified as Anoop, 22, son of Purushothaman of Gokulam, Kachani. Anoop was proceeding from Kachani to Vattiyookavu in a scooter.

The accident occurred when he applied brake to save a cyclist. Anoop fell down from the scooter and was run over by a KSRTC bus that was coming behind him, the police said.

The body had been shifted to the Peroorkada Hospital. The traffic police have registered a case.

Two found dead

Two persons were found dead in a house at Parattokonam in the Peroorkada police station limits today. The deceased were identified as Sulochana, 47, a resident of Ragam, Parottukonam, and Sunil Kumar, 39, a resident of Pallichal.

The police suspect it as a case of suicide. Sunil Kumar was a frequent visitor to the house. The police registered a case and the bodies were handed over to the relatives after a post mortem at the Medical College Hospital.

Man dies

A man collapsed and died in front of the old casualty wing of the Medical College Hospital here at 2.15 p.m. today. The deceased was identified as Soman, 52, of Kollam district.

Falls to death

A construction worker, who was seriously injured in a fall from a building in which he was working at Elamkavu, died at the Medical College Hospital today.

The police said that Jayakumar, 32, a resident of Vembayam, succumbed to his injuries at 11 a.m. The incident took place at 9.45 a.m. The body was handed over after a post mortem.
