`No charges against recruiting staff'

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, NOV. 2. Responding to the recent arrest of two persons for allegedly getting people recruited in the Army as jawans on the basis of forged documents, the Army today maintained that at no point in time had there been any specific allegation against the recruiting staff of the Independent Recruiting Office at Delhi Cantonment in South-West Delhi.

An Army release said efforts were being constantly made by all recruiting agencies to educate prospective candidates not to fall prey to touts. "All documents produced by the candidates are subjected to verification from the issuing authority. When these documents are proved fake, the candidates are rejected.

Even after enrolment, when it comes to light that some candidate has resorted to fraudulent means by producing fake documents, his service is terminated as per existing provisions," said the statement by the Army public relations officer, S.K. Sakhuja.

Last month, the Special Cell had arrested Inderjit Malik and Rambir Singh on charges of getting people inducted into the Army on the basis of forged documents like ration cards, caste certificates, educational certificates and domicile certificates. Fake rubber stamps of various government officials and police stations were recovered from their possession.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that they used to charge Rs. 70,000 per candidate for getting him recruited as jawan.
