BANGALORE, NOV. 2. The team from the Little Rock Indian School, Udupi, comprising Samarth V. Kuldalkar and Darryl N. Lewis, won this year's Rural IT Quiz at Bangalore IT.Com with a score of 95. Sandesh and Pradhan of PES PU College, Mandya, secured the second place. Giving away prizes to the winners, Kiran Karnik, President of the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), said: "I am confident that the future of IT is safe and secure in the hands of these youngsters." Eight teams qualified for the State finals. The teams that participated in the quiz shot back instantly at some of the questions while some went berserk with the buzzer, earning negative points. Though the other teams lost quite a few points in the buzzer rounds (because of negative ratings), the Udupi team played it safe not committing on questions they felt weren't within their reach.
A tricky question
"One Mr. Manickavasagam was in the news recently and what was he associated with?" was the question that caused a flutter among the audience. Pat came the reply from a person, who said he launched the portal Veerappan.com. In the visual round was the "Braille keyboard" which had to be identified. In the "IT World" round, the teams had to choose their topics related to which they would face their questions. The topics included IT initiatives, founders, history of computers, gaming, and so on. "Truly Global" round was the penultimate round, which cracked the fate of the contesting teams. The questions were based on clues and had negative scoring. The quizmaster constantly lauded the sound knowledge of the teams who could guess the personalities with their date of birth. One of the questions in the visual round was perhaps tough. For it could find none to answer: The jacket created by the IT professionals after the September 11 tragedy The mobile phone embedded in it helped trace an individual when he was trapped under debris. Mandya team secures second place
