MUMBAI, NOV. 3. Teesta Setalvad of the Citizens for Justice and Peace said today that she was pained and shocked by the allegations made by Zaheera Sheikh against her, and said "it was all lies." "However, I am not defeated by these accusations," she added. Ms. Setalvad told reporters that while she had not actually heard the statement made by Zaheera, the timing was very strange. "Zaheera could have come here and said all this in court as she was to depose tomorrow," she said. "I am also pained by the circumstances which have made her do this. I deny the allegations one hundred per cent. I had taken the summons for Zaheera and Nafitullah, her brother, and beyond this I don't know what happened," she explained. The case was sub judice and she could not comment on many issues. The Citizens For Justice and Peace had moved the Supreme Court on Zaheera's behalf to seek a re-trial of the Best Bakery case in which all 21 accused were acquitted last year in Baroda. "Nobody can deny she is the star witness and her turning around will have some impact on the case," Ms. Setalvad said. However, the substantive material in the case was not affected and there were other eyewitnesses. The case was going so well till now, she said.
