Plant trees, students told

VELLORE, NOV. 4. Sri Narayani Peedam, Thirumalaikkodi at Ariyoor near here, has launched an afforestation programme. Under the five-year programme, it has proposed to plant five lakh saplings at a cost of Rs. 5 crores.

The managing trustee of the Sri Narayani Peedam Trust, Sakthi Amma, inaugurated the programme at the foothills of Kailasagiri hills near Thirumalaikkodi. The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, S. Raghupathy planted saplings. He appealed to Sri Sakthi Amma to extend the programme to other districts as well.

Sri Sakthi Amma said that in these days of water scarcity, planting of trees should be considered as the best form of charity. He appealed to students to plant trees.

The Vellore MLA, C. Gnanasekharan, appealed to Sri Sakthi Amma to plant trees in the hills in Saidapet and Sathuvachari areas also. Earlier, the students of Narayani Vidyalaya, a school run by the Peedam took out a procession.
