TORANAGAL, NOV. 4. The Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, today warned the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Bajrang Dal against breaching law and order while taking out the Datta Peetah Shobha Yatra. Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Dharam Singh said these reactionary forces were raising such issues to divert the attention of the people from the development work being taken up by his Government. He said he would soon convene an all-party meeting to resolve the controversy. The representatives of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Bajrang Dal would be invited to the meeting, he said and reiterated that the Government would not tolerate any breach of law and order.
Naxal problem
About the naxal problem in the State, Mr. Dharam Singh hoped that the issue would be resolved soon. He said preliminary rounds of negotiations were on. Recalling the meeting convened by the Union Home Minister, Shivraj Patil, to find a solution to the problem, Mr. Dharam Singh said it was the duty of the State Government to help the people in the naxal-affected areas. "We have initiated talks to put an end to the issue. At the same time, the Government will take action if the naxals created a law and order problem," he said.
Roads
Mr. Dharam Singh said priority was being accorded to roads damaged in the rain this year. His Government had decided to allocate funds to the districts for road repair. "The damage caused to roads has been the biggest problem. Repairing roads is essential and equally important is the availability of resources. To overcome the problem, the Government had decided to raise about Rs. 200 crores loan from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation," he added. The Chief Minister said the Union Minister for Surface Transport had agreed to identify the Jewargi-Bellary stretch on Bidar-Srirangapatna Road as National Highway and later extend it up to Hiriyur and Bangalore. He said Rs. 20 crores had been allocated for infrastructure for the Circuit Benches of the High Court of Karnataka in Hubli-Dharwad and Gulbarga. If necessary, the Government would also release more funds. About the strike proposed by Government employees, Mr. Dharam Singh said it was mainly to demand the establishment of the fifth pay commission and the Government was seized of the matter. He said the Government would solve the problem and see that the employees would not go on strike.
