Uttar Pradesh
LUCKNOW, NOV. 4. The Uttar Pradesh government is still waiting for Governor T.V. Rajeshwar to return the controversial Maulana Mohd Ali Jauhar Urdu University ordinance which had reportedly been sent back by the President a fortnight ago. The President had sent back the ordinance recommending that the Advocate General's view be also taken on the issue. State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mohammad Azam Khan said here today the government was yet to receive the ordinance from the Raj Bhawan. Earlier, the Governor had referred the ordinance to the President as it suggested Mr Khan as life long pro-chancellor of the proposed University in Rampur. Mr Khan announced that the government would bring a bill on the proposed Urdu University during the coming assembly session, while a separate bill for setting up a similar university in the name of Ali Jauhar in private sector would also be brought. Observing that much politics had been generated on the issue, he blamed the Congress for the fiasco. ``It is unfortunate that the Raj Bhawan has been dragged in politics,'' he stated. On August 6, the state government had to withdraw the Maulana Ali Jauhar Urdu University ordinance abruptly on the last day of the monsoon session after the Governor objected to making Mr Khan life time pro-chancellor. Earlier, the Congress along with BJP and BSP also opposed the government's stand on the issue. Later, a month back Mr Khan categorically stated the government was ready to omit the clause of life time pro-chancellor if political parties had objections. UNI
