LIC development officers stage dharna

MYSORE, NOV. 4. The <149>Development O<149>fficers of the Life Insurance Corporation of India on Wednesday staged a dharna in front of the divisional office here protesting against the <149>foreign direct investment (FDI) in the insurance sector.

The protesting officials said that allowing FDI in insurance sector would affect the sector, and that the rise <149>in FDI capital should be withdrawn.

They criticised the service tax on premiums collected by insurance companies, and sought the withdrawal of the tax imposed. They also said that the service tax on agent's commission should be withdrawn.

Criticising the management as <149>being arrogant, they said that hatred between development officers and agents should be overcome.

They said that the exploitation of marketing force was not tolerable, and that <149>the rights of the policyholders should be protected.

Stating that it was the development officers who strengthened the LIC, they said that the management was working against development officers.

They also called upon the development officers and employees to remain united in their struggle against the forces that was <149>weakening the insurance sector.
