MYSORE, NOV. 4. How long does it take for the zilla panchayat to utilise the funds released for development projects? If Wednesday's debate in the Mysore Zilla Panchayat is any indication, then it may take at least three years for the funds to percolate to the beneficiaries. A case in point is the experience of government schools in K.R. Nagar taluk. The Mysore Zilla Panchayat sanctioned Rs. 20 lakhs for furnishing some government schools, which lacked benches and chairs. And after three years of dilly-dallying, the authorities remained undecided whether to opt for steel furniture or wooden ones. So the debate continued and even as the officials remained undecided, students continued to suffer.
