Australian school opened

NEW DELHI NOV.4. Bringing Australian schooling for the first time to India, an Australian School in East of Kailash was formally launched at the Australian High Commission here on Thursday evening.

According to the school Principal, Ian Sydney-Smith, admissions are now open for Class XI and the session will begin from January 2005.

Students clearing Class XI from this school can, apart from Indian universities, pursue further studies in the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States and other Western countries without having to clear the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), depending on the admission criteria.

Philatelic exhibition

NEW DELHI NOV.4. As part of its sesquicentennial celebrations, the Department of Posts opened a three-day philately exhibition called "INPEX 150" on Wednesday. The exhibition, which was inaugurated by the Union Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology, Shakeel Ahmed, houses award-winning collections of eminent philatelists and collections from the National Philatelic Museum and the Army Postal Service that depict the inter-twined histories of India and the Indian Post.

Workshops on philately have been organised for school children and special covers on the themes "E-Post", "Gangetic Dolphin" and "Philately" are being released at the exhibition.

Free health camp

NEW DELHI NOV.4. The Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre in New Delhi organised a free health and heart check-up camp on the National Book Trust premises here today. The free diagnosis services include blood pressure and blood-sugar check-ups, Electro-cardiogram and E.C.H.O.

The Consultant Cardiologist of Escorts, Piyush Jain, said that for prevention of diabetes and heart-related diseases clinical tests at early stages were necessary.

The Director of the National Book Trust, Shashi Shekhar Sharma, inaugurated the camp and nearly 200 employees of the Trust availed of the free services.

Diwali mela

NEW DELHI NOV.4. The Rajasthan Club is organising a Diwali Mela at the Punjabi Bagh Stadium on November 6 and 7. The mela will be given a Rajasthani ambience and will offer Rajasthani and Delhi cuisine, `dandia' and lucky draws. Celebrities like Reena Roy, Bindu, Alok Nath, Aditya Pancholi and Raza Murad are expected to attend the function. The President of the Club, Govind Kedia, said the earnings from the mela were used for social service programmes every year.
