Mangalore-Chennai super fast train to revert to express

MANGALORE, NOV. 4. Southern Railway, which recently upgraded the West Coast Express between Mangalore and Chennai to a super fast train (2667/2668), is now again changing it to an express train (6627/6628) with effect from November 12.

This decision has come as a surprise to the people here.

The Mangalore Junction-Chennai Central super fast train left Mangalore at 4 p.m. and reached Chennai at 7.50 a.m. the next day.

The train in the opposite direction (2667) left Chennai at 5 p.m. and reached Mangalore at 8.45 a.m.

Earlier, the express train (6628) used to leave Mangalore Junction at 9.15 p.m. and reach Chennai Central at 2 p.m., while the pairing train (6627) used to leave Chennai Central at 11 a.m. and reach Mangalore at 6 a.m. The Southern Railway website presently does not list the West Coast Express under the passenger train category and displays its schedule and other details in the express train category.

While the decision to revert to the earlier system seems to have been made for operational reasons, the move has caused inconvenience to people who have already booked tickets to travel after November 12.

Raghavan, a regular traveller on the route, said the Railway authorities had asked people who booked tickets on trains 6627/28 after November 12/13 to cancel the same and re-book their tickets.

Another passenger, Pavitra T.R., said she had to cancel her tickets booked on the train from Chennai to Mangalore on November 13 and re-book it.
