BANGALORE, NOV. 4. You can now study animation in India with the backing of a U.S. university. Paprikas Animation Studios has entered into a tie up with Carnegie Mellon University's Entertainment Technology Centre. The Paprikaas Animation, Game and Entertainment (PAGE) Academy will offer six-month to two-year advanced programmes from January next year, says its Nandish Domlur, Chief Executive Officer. The animation industry in India is growing and more people are needed to create a quality workforce. The Indian industry pegged at $ 550 million is expected to grow by 30 per cent annually for the next three years, according to a report published by Andersen Consulting. "Being part of a studio, I can tell you that there is a dearth of manpower," he adds. The course will be co-designed and co-developed by the two institutions. Courses will be modular in nature and constantly modified to fit the changing needs of the industry. Don't worry if you are not a great artist. A career in animation can still be for you. "The PAGE academy does not intend to turn artists into technologists or vice-versa. Our course recognises both capabilities," adds Mr. Nandish.
