BANGALORE, NOV. 4. The ongoing IT.Com has provided opportunities for non-governmental organisations such as Mobility India and Family Services garner public attention and support for their activities. Their role of being a bridge between the corporate world and the underprivileged got strengthened. Mobility India, which has been active for 10 years, helps the physically challenged with mobility aids which it makes. Its stall at IT.Com sells T-shirts, scribbling pads and glass tumblers with the organisation's logo on them. Fund Raising assistant Praveen Hegde said: "Events like this can be an eye opener for the corporate world and some firms like MICO, HP and HLL have given us generous donations. They have our donation boxes in their stalls." The State Government had been giving them free stall space each year, he said. Family Services, which seeks to comfort those in need of emotional support, especially children, try to involve corporate employees in activities that help these children. They are planning a day's outing at the amusement park Fun World on Children's Day for 1,500 children from city slums, orphanages and shelters. Volunteers from this organisation, Abi and Angee, said: "We are happy to be making a difference to the corporate world by helping them reach out to children in need." Srushti, a school that teaches Bharatnatyam to children from deprived backgrounds, helps the children communicate better through dance steps and gestures. The children let go of their suppressed feelings in the process. Lakshmi Hariharan, Director of Srushti, said: "It makes them happy and they get on outlet for their feelings. It is easy for them to overcome their personal problems when they share them with others." The NGO's catchphrase is: Creativity and awareness through Arts.
