Computer Services' plans

By P. Vikram Reddy

HYDERABAD, NOV. 6. Computer Services Corporation (CSC), the world's third largest IT services company with revenues of $16 billion, is bullish on India, looking at it as the `land of opportunities', which not only provides 10-20 per cent cost advantage, but also high quality human resources suitable for high-end work.

India fits in well in their `World sourcing strategy', which is to seek best of locations, best benefits in innovations, quality and cost, besides a non-problematic location. "We are here for the long haul. Not to take advantage of the 10-20 per cent cost advantage but to do good work, stay here and make money," declares Ron Whitehand, Senior Vice-President, Global Infrastructure Services (GIS), in Europe, Middle East and Africa within CSC.

Speaking to The Hindu here, Mr. Whitehand said, "We want to build up our presence in India which is growing. We will bring more work here from around the world".

Consequently he expects the headcount in GIS work alone in India to go up from 600 now to 2,000 in two years.

Besides, Noida, Indore, and Hyderabad, it is now planning to start operations from one more location in India, and is considering places such as Chennai and Bangalore.
