CHENNAI, NOV. 6. The Kerala Government will ensure that the freedom of the press is protected and the attack on mediapersons will not be allowed to be repeated, the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, has said. "The Government has condemned the attack on the media. Both the United Democratic Front and the Congress have reacted strongly to the attack on presspersons," he told reporters on his arrival at the Meenambakom Airport here today. Mr. Chandy, who is here for a meeting with his Tamil Nadu counterpart, Jayalalithaa, on the sharing of waters from the inter-State rivers, also assured that the culprits would be brought to book soon. The Kerala Union of Working Journalists (Tamil Nadu) also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister protesting against last week's attack on mediapersons in Kerala. The memorandum also demanded that stern action be taken against the culprits. Meanwhile, the Industries Minister, P.K. Kunhalikutty, who also reached here along with Mr. Chandy, left the airport, without catching the attention of the media. - PTI
