New Zealand completes sweep

DHAKA, NOV. 7. New Zealand restricted Bangladesh to 167 for seven in its 50 overs after making 250 for seven and completed a 3-0 sweep of the one-day series here on Sunday.

Bangladesh got off to a promising start with Mohammad Rafique taking four wickets to restrict New Zealand to 250 for seven after skipper Daniel Vettori won the toss and elected to bat.

Mathew Sinclair and Scott Styris made aggressive half centuries for New Zealand, which already leads the series 2-0. Sinclair hit 66 off 77 balls before he was caught and bowled by Rafique, who posted figures of four for 63.

Rafique also dismissed Styris who hit 51 — his 10th half century — off 68 balls before being caught by Alok Kapali. He went on to take the wicket of Craig McMillan (39), also caught and bowled.

Nathan Astle (27) was run out and Chris Harris (9) was trapped leg before by Aftab Ahmed. Hamish Marshall was caught for a duck at short cover by Saleh off a Rafique delivery. Tapash Baishya dismissed Chris Cairns (34) with the last ball of the innings.

Chasing a target of 251, Rafique — a lefthanded batsman who is usually a tail-ender — partnered opener Javed Omar, hitting 21 off 40 balls that included four boundaries. He was trapped leg before by Kyle Mills.

Opener Omar (8) was the first to go after James Franklin trapped him lbw. Rajin Saleh went the same way for a duck after getting caught leg before by Scott Styris. Nafis Iqbal, who made 40 from 86 balls, got caught by Sinclair as he tried to hit one over the top off a Vettori delivery.

Styris was adjudged the man of the match as well as the series.
