Infiltration bids foiled: Pranab
NEW DELHI,
NOV. 7.
Though attempts to push in infiltrators across the Line of Control were on the rise, a sophisticated detection mechanism has been put in place to foil them, according to the Defence Minister, Pranab Mukherjee.
He said the anti-infiltration fence was nearing completion and additional unmanned aerial vehicles and other detection equipment had been given to the troops in Jammu and Kashmir and North-East.
In the first week of November, the Army had foiled four major infiltration attempts and 11 militants, mostly Pakistanis, have been killed and a large amount of arms and ammunition recovered.
Mr. Mukherjee said the streamlining of the arms purchase process had cut delays in armament induction. And, the Ministry has already utilised 40 per cent of the funds earmarked for modernisation.
