HYDERABAD, NOV. 7. India today successfully test-fired the 350-km-range Dhanush missile, capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads, from INS Subhadra along the east coast. The missile was test-fired at 12.15 p.m. The event marked the induction of the Dhanush missile system into the Navy. The missile, a derivative of Prithvi, was developed by DRDO and manufactured by the Hyderabad-based M/s Bharat Dynamics Limited. The launch was jointly conducted by the crew of INS Subhadra and the DRDO team under the supervision of V.K. Saraswat, programme director and director, Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad. The Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral A. Prakash, and the Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister, M. Natarajan, witnessed the launch on a tele-link. The performance of the missile and the launch system was outstanding and "all mission parameters in respect of accuracy and range were fully met," Mr. Saraswat told The Hindu over telephone from the ship.
