Need to introspect on Best Bakery events: Manmohan

By Our Special Correspondent

ON BOARD SPECIAL AIRCRAFT, NOV. 7. The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, said the recent turn of events in the Best Bakery case is a matter over which "we all must ponder and reflect".

Asked about the sudden retraction of the statement made by Zahira Sheikh in which she had alleged being threatened by senior BJP leaders in the run-up to the initial trial, the Dr. Singh said: "There are problems in the criminal investigation process in our country. There are problems in the management of the prosecution system."

He said he did not want to comment on this case since it is sub judice. "But I do hope that the country as a whole would introspect and reflect on what is going on and what can be done to avoid this present type of situation."
