BIDAR, NOV. 8. The police have arrested an undertrial who escaped from the district jail recently. Shantkumar, accused of kidnapping and murdering a five-year-old student, escaped from the jail on November 1. The police arrested him at Latur in Maharashtra. During interrogation, he confessed that he had escaped from the Bidar Jail as he learnt that his case would be disposed of soon. Shantkumar was also wanted by the Latur police for offences committed there, the police said. They said a police team brought back Shantkumar to Bidar and produced him in the local court. Shantkumar had confessed that he kidnapped the student Sangamesh for ransom and killed him in a forest on the Andhra Pradesh border. The police had arrested Shantkumar's associate, Veerendra Bhangure.
