Netherlands rallies to down Australia

ROSARIO, NOV. 8. Chantal de Bruijn and Maartje Scheepstra scored second-half goals and rallied the Netherlands to a 2-1 victory over Australia at the Champion's Trophy women's field hockey tournament on Sunday, handing the defending champion its second loss in as many games.

The Dutchwomen's second victory gave them six points from two matches and the tournament lead, just ahead of Olympic gold medallist Germany, which downed host Argentina 2-0. In another match, China drew 1-1 with New Zealand.

Suzie Faulkner capitalized on a penalty corner to give Australia the lead in the 10th minute. De Bruijn equalized in the 45th minute and Scheepstra scored the winner 14 minutes later when she took a long pass and deftly deflected it into the net.

On Tuesday, China plays Germany, New Zealand faces the Netherlands and Australia takes on Argentina. — AP
