Bidar
By Our Staff Correspondent
BIDAR, NOV. 8. The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has ordered the State Bank of Mysore, Bidar branch, to pay compensation to a retired treasury officer for deficiency in service. The president of the forum, Diwakar Rao, and the members, Inamdar Mohammed Ghulam Nabi and Kalavati Patil, found that the manager and in-charge manager of the branch were personally liable for payment of Rs. 15,000 as compensation to the petitioner, Sharanappa Hotapet. According to the order of the forum, Mr. Hotapet retired from service on January 31, 2003. The branch received his pension on December 31, 2003. But it was not credited till January 8, 2004. The bank refused to pay him Rs. 4,000 on January 8 saying that there was no money in the branch. Mr. Hotapet needed money to meet his wife's medical expenses. When Mr. Hotapet protested, the in-charge manager allegedly misbehaved with him and sent him out. Mr. Hotapet approached the forum and sought a compensation of Rs. one lakh for the mental agony and torture he suffered. The bank pleaded that Mr. Hotapet's pension was not credited as the manager was on leave. The forum found this unacceptable.
