More crops submerge as rain continues

NAGAPATTINAM, NOV.8. Several parts of this district experienced moderate to heavy rain last night and this morning, further submerging the samba crop, particularly in Nagapattinam and Thalainayar taluks. In some places, water started receding as irrigation authorities had paved the way for letting out water through the regulators in many villages.

Sirkazhi recorded the highest rainfall of 58 mm in the last 24 hours ended 8.30 this morning. The rainfall recorded in important stations in the Cauvery delta region (in mm): Mayiladuturai 57, Tirukkattupalli 50, Nagapattinam 35, Tiruppoondi 34, Needamangalam 33, Tiruvarur 21, Budalur 18, Thanjavur 17, Nannilam 15, Mannargudi, Muthupettai, Peravuruni and Orathanadu received below 10 mm.

Water supply from the Grand Anicut for irrigation in Cauvery, Vennar and Grand Anicut canal river systems remained suspended. However, Coleroon is getting a supply of 3,185 cusecs this evening.

Mettur inflow

Inflow into the Mettur reservoir has increased this evening at 12,163 cusecs against 7,090 cusecs yesterday.

Water level in the dam stood at 96.10 feet (full level 120 feet) this evening and the storage was 59.90 tmc feet (full capacity 93.4 tmc feet) with a meagre discharge of 100 cusecs.
