TNOU to expand Tiruchi centre

TIRUCHI, NOV. 8 . The Tamil Nadu Open University has decided to expand the resource base of its Tiruchi centre located in Periyar EVR College, by drawing faculty from various colleges in and around the region.

Interested faculty in the disciplines of Management, Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, Public Administration, Economics, Computer Science, English, Tamil, and Food & Nutrition can contact the TNOU Co-ordinator, Tiruchi Centre.

Counselling was currently being offered at the Centre for three batches of enrolled candidates — 2003 first batch, 2003 calendar year batch and 2004 academic year batch — in UG, PG and Diploma courses, according to Raja Mutthirulandi, coordinator. The services of eligible faculty would be utilised for offering counselling sessions being organised in the college on Saturdays and Sundays of this month. The faculty would also be required to evaluate the assignments submitted by learners under the TNOU programme.

Prof. Mutthirulandi also said the Tiruchi centre of the TNOU had the distinction of being the first in the State to go operational for direct down-linking facility of IGNOU telecasts of educational programmes in six channels: Gyandarshan - 1, Gyandarshan - 2, Eklavya - 3, Cec-UGC-4, Kisan-5, and Gyanvani-6. The facility would immensely help the TNOU students, he added.
