AIADMK cadres stage demonstration

By Our Tamil Nadu Bureau

THANJAVUR, NOV. 9. Cadres of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) staged a demonstration in front of the General Post Office here today, demanding that the increase in the prices of petroleum products be withdrawn immediately.

The Tamil Nadu Textbook Society chairman, K. Thangamuthu, the party farmers' wing secretary, Durai. Govindarajan, and the Thanjavur north district secretary, Korkai. Mathiyalagan, led the agitation.

Mr. Thangamuthu said the increase was exorbitant and would entail a burden on the poor and middle-class people. The DMK had announced an agitation; but it was only an eyewash, because it was part of the ruling coalition at the centre, he added.

Nagapattinam

Five hundred AIADMK members, including 50 women, staged a demonstration in front of the Head Post Office at Nagapattinam.

The propaganda secretary, O.S. Manian, led the agitation, in which the MLAs, R. Jeevanandam and Ranganathan, took part.

Perambalur

The AIADMK cadres took out a procession and staged a demonstration in front of the post office at Perambalur.

The Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation chairman and party district secretary, M. Ravichandran, and the MLAs, P. Ilavazhagan and S. Annadurai, took part in the agitation.

Pudukottai

The cadres, led by the MLA, Saroja, staged a demonstration in front of the Head Post Office at Pudukottai.
