AIADMK cadres stage demonstration

TIRUNELVELI, NOV. 9 . Braving an incessant drizzle, over 600 All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam cadres and local leaders staged a demonstration in front of the head post office near the Thiruvalluvar two-tier bridge today, urging the Union Government to withdraw the steep price hike of petrol, diesel and cooking gas.

The protestors, holding aloft empty LPG cylinders, raised slogans against the Centre for frequently increasing the fuel price. They also condemned the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president, M. Karunanidhi, for failing to stop the price hike though his party had a good number of Ministers in the Union Cabinet.

They urged Mr. Karunanidhi to come out of the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre, led by the Congress.

The Mayor, A. Jayarani, the party's Tirunelveli East district secretary, Murugaiah Pandian, the Tirunelveli west district secretary, Chendur Pandian, MLAs Subbiah Pandian, Annamalai, and P.G. Rajendran, former MPs S. Murugesan and Soundararajan, former Minister Nagoor Meeran, former MLA R.P. Aditan, AIADMK councillors and others participated in the agitation.

Nagercoil

Cadres of the AIADMK staged a demonstration in front of the post-office at Manimedai near Nagercoil.

The agitation was led by the district secretaries (east and west), Suyampulingam and Sivakuttalam.

Tuticorin

About 1600 members of the AIADMK 175 women staged a demonstration in Tuticorin.

Ramanathapuram

Hundreds of cadres of the AIADMK staged a demonstration in front of the head post office in Ramanathapuram, demanding immediate withdrawal of petroleum price hike.

The district secretary of the party, Mr. Murugesan, the Ramanathapuram MLA, Anwar Raza, and the Muthukulathur MLA, Pathinettampadian were among those who participated in the agitation. They raised slogans against the Central Government for hiking the price of petrol and diesel for the third time in three months.

In Karaikudi, more than 400 workers of the AIADMK staged a demonstration.

The Joint Secretary of Anna Thozhirsanga Peravai, Sankaradoss, and the district secretary, Karupaiah, presided over the agitation organised in front of the head post office at Karaikudi. The Ilayankudi MLA, V.T. Nadarajan, the Sivaganga MLA, Chandran and the Thirupattur MLA, Umadevan, participated in the demonstration.

Virudhunagar

Around 300 members of the AIADMK, led by Rajya Sabha member, S.P.M. Syed Khan, staged a dharna in Virudhunagar.

The district secretary, R. Vinayagamoorthy, and MLAs K.K. Sivasami and M. Rajasekar, participated.

Madurai

The AIADMK cadres staged a demonstration against the revision of prices of petroleum products here today. Around 1,000 party members raised slogans seeking immediate withdrawal of the price hike. The urban district secretary, A.K. Bose, presided. The State students' wing secretary, A.K. Kalai Rajan, the MLAs, C. Durairaj (Sedapatti), Valarmathi Jebaraj (Madruai West), S.M. Seenivel (Tirupparankunram), V.R. Rajangam (Sholavandan), R. Samy (Melur), M.A. Hakeem (Madurai Central) and P. Ponnambalam (Samayanallur) participated. The demonstration was organised in front of the Head Post Office.
