NEW DELHI, NOV. 9. The recent increase in prices of petroleum products is to come up for discussion at a coordination meeting of the United Progressive Alliance-Left scheduled for Thursday. The Left parties had staged demonstrations against the increase and demanded that the move be reviewed. The Government, however, has been maintaining that it had taken up the matter with the Left leaders. However, sources in the Left parties said that the consultations the Government had been talking of was nothing more than the Ministry concerned stating the reasons for the increase. Besides this issue, the Left parties would also be giving a formal response to the note on telecom sector. On October 12, the Government had handed over the note in which the Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, had taken up point by point the six objections raised by the Left over the move to raise the foreign direct investment (FDI) cap from 49 per cent to 74 per cent in the sector.
