Zahira plea to NCW

By Our Staff Correspondent

NEW DELHI, NOV. 9. Zahira Sheikh, prime witness in the Best Bakery case, has appealed to the National Commission for Women (NCW) to ensure her protection. She had approached the National Minorities Commission yesterday.

In a letter, written in Gujarati, which was delivered to the Commission here through her lawyer, Ms. Zahira reposed faith in the organisation and said it would understand her suffering.

Last week, Ms. Zahira had retracted from her statement made in court and said that social activist Teesta Setalvad had "pressured'' her to name innocent people in the bakery massacre during the Gujarat riots.

She is now under police protection at an undisclosed destination in Ahmedabad.
