Uttar Pradesh is going backwards, says Rahul

AMETHI, NOV. 9 . Coming down heavily on the Uttar Pradesh Government, which his supported from outside by his party, the Congress Member of Parliament, Rahul Gandhi, said today that the State was "going backwards" in terms of development as the Government was "not working."

He agreed with the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi's allegation that the State Government, led by Mulayam Singh was discriminating against the Rae Bareli and Amethi Lok Sabha constituencies.

"The rest of the country is progressing. I have visited Karnataka and Kerala. These [States] are moving forward, but Uttar Pradesh is going backwards," he told reporters during a tour of Amethi.

Asked about the reasons for "lack of development" in the State, he said: "The Government is not working. There is no power. These are obvious reasons." _ PTI
