PATNA, NOV. 9. A non-bailable arrest warrant, issued almost a month ago by a Patna court, against the Union Minister of State for Civil Suplies, Md. Taslimuddin, is still to be executed. The case relates to his alleged failure to pay a dealer the price of a vehicle he purchased over five years ago. The First Class Judicial Magistrate, Patna, S. K. Sinha, had issued the warrant on October 5 after Mr. Taslimuddin repeatedly ignored summons. The complaint was lodged by the dealer of the Mahindra and Mahindra group of car manufacturers, Lawley Sen and Company, who said the cheque issued by Mr. Taslimuddin for Rs. 3 lakhs had been dishonoured by the bank and that he had not cared to pay the compensation later. The court had directed the Araria S.P. to lodge a case and arrest Mr. Taslimuddin and fixed January 20, 2005 as the date of hearing. The S.P. is reportedly in Patna and was not available for comments. The court had earlier directed Mr. Taslimuddin to pay the sum with interest. He ignored it inviting the arrest warrant.
The BJP vice-president, S. K. Modi, today demanded the dismissal of Mr. Taslimuddin from the Union Council of Ministers and also took exception to the fact that the S.P. had not complied with the court orders and arrest him for well over a month. Mr. Modi accused the Prime Minister of shielding corrupt Ministers.and said the Supreme Court had also expressed its resentment over the manner in which the State Government had recently withdrawn a case in which the court had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Mr. Taslimuddin.
