MANGALORE, NOV. 9. Four new records were set on day two of the 26th men and 11th women State junior and master powerlifting championships here on Tuesday. Manoj Kumar Bedi of S.D.M. College, Mangalore set a new record in bench press in the 75 kg category in junior section with a lift of 137 kg. He bettered the previous record of 136.5 kg set by G.T. Parameshwara of Beereshwara Vyayamashaale, Davangere in 2003. The other records fell to a local powerlifter, Ganesh Prasad of Balanjaneya Gym, Mangalore, the organisers of the event. Ganesh set new records in bench press and deadlift in the 90 kg category in junior section with efforts of 155 kg and 252.5 kg respectively, bettering previous marks in the name of P.R. Nanjappa of Pulakeshi Vyayamashaale, Shimoga (147.5 kg) and Sudhir of Balanjaneya (250 kg) set in January 1992 and August 1998 respectively.
Hanumanthappa of Municipal Sports Club, Davangere set a new squat record in the 100 kg category in the junior section with an effort of 270 kg. He bettered the record of 252.5 kg set by Sunil Kumar of Balanjaneya Gym in 1993.
