YSR to unveil litterateur's statue

TIRUPATI, NOV. 9. A rich literary tribute awaits the unsung litterateur, Sankarambadi Sundarachari, who has composed the song, Maa Telugu Talliki mallepoo danda...

The Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) is installing his bronze statue at Annapurneswari circle (Lakshmipuram) in the town. Sculptors are working round-the-clock to complete the statue for which, Hotel Poojith Residency has volunteered to bear the cost. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, is scheduled to unveil the statue on November 18.

The TUDA Chairman, B. Karunakar Reddy, at a press conference here on Tuesday, described him as an innocent poet of Tirupati who had penned the most commendable poems, but left the world even before his worth was recognised. Mr. Reddy later released a commemorative poster.

Literary week.

The TUDA has also decided to organise a weeklong literary festival with a host of literary luminaries taking part. The subjects chosen for discussion are range from ancient to modern, Vedic to Dalit and spiritual to revolutionary literature.

Eminent litterateurs like Dasarathi Rangacharya, Janumaddi Hanumacchastri, Saikrishna Yachendra, Jwalamukhi, Kolakaluri Enoch, Volga, G.V.Subrahmanyam, Vangarala, Kadir Babu are among those who will take part. Adding to the glitter will be Tollywood celebrities like M.V.S. Haranadha Rao, Veturi, Suddala Ashok Teja and K. Viswanath.

Competitions for school children will be held during the festival, which closes on 23rd with the singing of Annamacharya kirtans.
