Legislation sought on micro-classification

By Our Staff Reporter

CUDDAPAH, NOV. 9. Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Committee leaders on Tuesday demanded that Parliament enact legislation providing for micro-classification of SC reservations in the wake of the recent Supreme Court judgment.

Micro-classification of SCs was essential for removing imbalances in a democratic society, asserted the APCLC State treasurer, R. Shamir Basha, the district joint secretary, G.L. Muralikrishna, and the executive member, P. Ganganna, in a statement. They expressed concern over the SC ruling that Parliament alone had the right to enact such legislation and not a State Government.

The Chandrababu Naidu Government had issued the G.O. classifying SCs and he was supported by all political parties, they said and urged all political parties to support enactment of such legislation, setting side narrow political interests. Democratic-minded people should also exert pressure on parties in this regard, they said.
