TIRUPATI, NOV. 9. The hoisting of the holy flag `Dhwajapatam' at the Tiruchanur temple on Tuesday as part of `Dhwajarohanam' marked the beginning of the nine-day `Kartheeka Brahmotsavams' of Goddess Padmavathi, the divine consort of Lord Venkateswara. The flag carrying the image of an elephant, the favourite celestial carrier of the Goddess, was hoisted atop the temple flagpost by priests at 9.30 a.m. at `Dhanur lagnam' amid chanting of hymns from scriptures and traditional drumbeats. The TTD's Executive Officer, Ajeya Kallam, was present. ``Unjal seva'' was performed in the evening, when the deity of Padmavathi was seated atop a flower-bedecked swing and rocked to and fro, much to the delight of the hundreds of ecstatic devotees gathered there. Later, the deity was taken around the temple in procession on Chinna Sesha vahanam.
