Temperature

MADURAI, NOV.9. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 30.8 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 23.7 degrees Celsius.

The airport recorded a rainfall of 4.9 mm till 8.30 a.m. today.

Water level

The level in the Periyar dam today stood at 126.9 feet with an inflow of 2276 cusecs and a discharge of 1550 cusecs.

The level in the Vaigai dam was 62.40 feet with an inflow of 2425 cusecs and a discharge 1530 cusecs. The combined Periyar credit stood at 7331 mcft.

Melur recorded 26 mm of rainfall followed by Shanmuganadi - 23, Andipatti (Theni) - 22.4, Thaniyamangalam - 22, Peranai - 21.8, Mayiladumparai - 19, Kuppanampatti - 18, Pulipatti - 15, Madurai - 13, Uthamapalayam - 12, Sothuparai dam - 11.4, Tekkadi and Andipatti (Madurai) - 11 mm each, Kallandiri - 9.4, Viraganur - 7.5, Periyar dam - 7, Mettupatti - 6.8, Idayapatti- 6, Veerapandi, Manjalar dam, Periyakulam, Sathaiyar dam, Chittampatti and Gudalur, - 5 mm each and Vaigai dam - 4 mm.

Two children drowned

Two school children were drowned while swimming in a tank at Vilangudi near here today.

The police said K. Bose Mani (9) and his classmate, M. Panneerselvam (10), studying fifth standard in a local school, entered the tank for a swim after school hours when the accident took place. The fire service personnel fished out the bodies.

Course in spoken English

A general proficiency course in spoken English will be organised for various categories of the people by the Institute of Spoken English at the Madurai Kamaraj University Evening College.

The course is for all categories — unemployed graduates, clerks, administrators, professionals, school teachers, businessmen, college and school students and housewives.

The last date for receipt of filled-in application forms with the fee chalan is November 30.
