CHENNAI, NOV. 9. The Chennai Corporation today launched a `sanitary education awareness' scheme to improve sanitary conditions among slum dwellers in the city. Under this scheme a woman Resident Community Volunteer (RCV) will be appointed for every 1,000 slum dwellers. The volunteers will be trained in women's welfare, child development and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases among other issues. They will serve as a bridge between the slum dwellers and staff belonging to the Health Department.
