NEW DELHI, NOV. 9. The Ansal group of industries today deposited Rs. 3,01,40,000 with the Delhi High Court Registry where a compensation fund of Rs. 22 crores has been set up following a direction by the High Court in 2003. The fund is meant for compensation to the families of the dead and injured in the Uphaar fire tragedy on June 13, 1997. The Ansals deposited the amount with the Registry on a direction by the Supreme Court last month. In its order, the Supreme Court had directed the Ansals to deposit the amount as well as granted liberty to it to offer the cinema building as a security to raise its share of compensation amount from financial institutions or banks. However, the Supreme Court said that the cinema building would be kept intact as a case property till disposal of the criminal case in the matter. The Supreme Court has also directed that no other encumbrance on or third party interest would be created in the cinema building.
