Mainly clear day forecast

NEW DELHI NOV. 9. The Capital is likely to have another mist laden morning on Wednesday with the sky remaining largely clear through the day, the weatherman said. The minimum temperature is likely to hover around 11 degrees Celsius.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at Safdarjung on Tuesday were 28.8 and 12.0 degrees Celsius. While at Palam, the maximum and minimum temperatures were 28.7 and 11.3 degrees Celsius respectively. Safdarjung and Palam recorded a maximum humidity of 86 and 79 per cent, while the minimum was 26 and 24 per cent respectively.

Cop creates drama

New Delhi Nov. 9. A CISF constable today created high drama at the international airport over the issue of leave, police said.

Constable J.D. Singh had sought 8-day leave to go home in Gujarat, but his superiors sanctioned him only one day leave, the police said.

Perturbed by this, Singh went to the airport police station and asked them to take possession of his gun loaded with 30 rounds so that he could proceed on leave, police said.

The police reported the matter to his superiors who came and took him away assuring that he would be granted the desired leave which they later fulfilled.

Scribe assaulted

NEW DELHI NOV. 9. A journalist with an English daily was allegedly assaulted by two persons near IIT flyover in South Delhi this Monday night. Mayank Tewari was on his way back home when two persons on a motorcycle allegedly intercepted him, snatched his eye glasses, broke them and started slapping him without any provocation. They allegedly tore his shirt and then fled from the scene. Mayank then lodged a case with the Hauz Khas police. Efforts are on to identify the assailants.

Auto-lifters held

NEW DELHI NOV. 9. Three alleged auto-lifters have been arrested by the Operation Cell of the North-East Delhi police. The police have recovered seven stolen vehicles at their instance.

Acting on a tip-off that a person named Praveen was stealing vehicles from North-East Delhi and was disposing them of at Agra, the police sent a team there. He was subsequently arrested along with his accomplice, Gajender Singh. A Tata Sumo stolen from Man Sarovar Park was recovered from their possession. During interrogation, they confessed to at least 21 criminal cases. At their instance, the police arrested their accomplice, Vijay, and recovered six stolen Maruti cars.

Bootlegger booked

NEW DELHI NOV. 9. An alleged bootlegger was arrested from Timarpur in North Delhi today. The police recovered 144 quarters of country-made liquor and seized a scooter from him.

The accused has been identified as Randhir Singh, a resident of Nangla Machi in New Delhi. During interrogation, he revealed that he was into bootlegging for the past 10 years and had been arrested under the Excise Act on several occasions.
