HYDERABAD, NOV. 9. Close on the heels of the Transport Minister, S. Santosh Reddy's diatribe against the implementation of the helmet rule, the Congress MLA from the city, P. Janardhan Reddy demanded that the State Government put an end to the `high-handedness' of the traffic police. "Their high-handedness is giving our Government a bad name. Previous Governments have faced enough flak on account of the helmet rule and were forced to withdraw the rule. This should not be repeated in the case of our Government," he said in a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, here on Tuesday. Saying the enforcement of the helmet rule was generating a lot of resentment among the public, he said it was better if people were educated on the merits of helmets instead of implementing it forcefully.
Public transport
Maintaining that there was an urgent need to focus on the growing urban and sub-urban traffic problems, Mr. Janardhan Reddy appealed to the Chief Minister to initiate efforts to improve the public transportation system in the city and the surrounding municipalities.
