JAIPUR, NOV. 10. Malaria, which raised its ugly head in the western Rajasthan districts recently, is now on the downslide with the number of patients registering a decline by 22 per cent. The State Government launched special efforts to control the disease and strengthened health care services in the region. The Medical and Health Minister, Digambar Singh, said in a statement here that over 1,300 malaria link workers were pressed into service in Jaisalmer and Barmer districts to control the spread of the disease, while health services were provided through mobile teams comprising medical officers, laboratory technicians and health workers. Dr. Singh said the "rapid investigation kits'' using the latest medical techniques were utilised to undertake malaria tests in the remote and inaccessible areas. Insecticides were also spread in the affected areas and the fish destroying the mosquito larva were released in the ponds.
