JAIPUR, NOV. 10. The Pink City missed the Vice-President, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, on Dhanteras day today, as the veteran leader chose to remain in Delhi for Diwali this season. This may be a rare instance when Mr. Shekhawat has been away on a Dhanteras, which is his birthday as well according to Vikram Samvad. His official birthday is October 23. After taking over as Vice-President, Mr. Shekhawat had celebrated Diwali here in 2002 and 2003. Dhanteras is an occasion when the tradition-bound Jaipur-ites indulge in large-scale shopping, especially of items made of silver and other metals, which they consider auspicious. Like worshiping Dhanvantari, the saint of Ayurveda on the day, over a period meeting Mr.Shekhawat, who presides over a gathering of friends and admirers in the backdrop of enormous quantities of "laddus'' at his residence, too had become part of their day's rituals for the people here. This time again, Mr.Shekhawat was scheduled to be in Rajasthan for five days starting from November 9. As per the programme on the first day he had gone to Siriyari village in Pali district to receive the Anuvrat Award from Acharya Mahapragya. After that instead of reaching Jaipur he left for Delhi from there itself. The main reason for Mr.Shekhawat's return to Delhi is said to be the recent hospitalisation of Narpat Singh Rajvi, his son-in-law and Rajasthan Industries Minister. Mr.Rajvi was admitted to AIIMS on November 1 to undergo an endoscopic surgery of his nose. As his recovery took more time than initially expected, Mr.Shekhawat and the other family members decided to remain in Delhi.
