BHOPAL, NOV. 10. In a swift move last night, the police chased away the Shikshakarmis (temporary and contract school teachers) sitting on a dharna here to demand `equal pay for equal work'. The Shikshakarmis from across the State, who were sitting on an indefinite dharna at the Lily Talkies square here, were chased all the way to the railway station. The action followed the State Government's tough stand that the services of those Shikshakarmis would be terminated who would fail to resume their duty by 10 a.m. on Wednesday. The police action came after the failure of talks between their representatives and the State School Education Minister, Dhal Singh Bisen, last night. The State Government also threatened that it would be compelled to break the service of the striking Shikshakarmis and recruit new teachers with the help of the Parent Teachers Associations.
