Uttaranchal
By Our Staff Correspondent
DEHRA DUN, NOV. 10. Demonstrations and burning of effigies of the Uttaranchal Chief Minister, Narayan Dutt Tiwari, continued for the third day today in various parts of the State. Activists of the Uttarakhand Sanyukt Sangharsh Morcha and Uttarakhand Mahila Manch were out on the streets in Gairsen, Tehri and Almora today demanding a public apology from Mr Tiwari for having advised the people to forget the October 2, 1994 Rampur Tiraha incidents and concentrate on development works. A large number of women raised slogans against the Chief Minister as he went to pay homage at the martyrs memorial in Dehra Dun Collectorate yesterday. The Bharatiya Janata Party that boycotted all official functions of the State Foundation Day wanted Mr Tiwari to stop insulting the masses by asking them to forget the atrocities committed by Uttar Pradesh police on innocent activists at Rampur Tiraha. "The cops raped and shot dead several of the activists going to Delhi that night. All we are seeking is prosecution of the guilty police officers. This demand will not spoil relations with Uttar Pradesh as hinted by Mr Tiwari'', the former Chief Minister and BJP State president, Bhagat Singh Koshiary, said. Reports from Gairsen said that several more activists are going to join the indefinite fast in support of the demand to establish the State's Capital there.
